2024年11月7日，第1届世界古典学大会在北京开幕。大会从古典文明的研究视域出发，回溯人类思想之源、总结人类历史智慧、发掘人类文明传统。

　　在探讨孔子与古希腊哲学的分论坛上，英国伦敦大学皇家霍洛威学院古代史教授莉娜·鲁宾斯坦在接受中青报·中青网记者专访时表示，儒家主张的“仁”与“义”对应着古希腊哲学中的”博爱“与”正直”。

　　同时她认为，当今社会在一定程度上夸大了希腊哲学思想中的“个人主义”。“希腊哲学一直把个人置于一个整体的社会背景中。”鲁宾斯坦说，“个人不应该以牺牲社会繁荣作为代价获利。”

　　“如果我们研究其他文化的道德准则，我们就会对固有传统提出新的问题。”鲁宾斯坦表示，有些问题在固有文化下可能已成“理所应当”，并不会去细想，是跨文化交流给了这些问题浮出水面的机会。“讨论这些新问题远比获得一个答案重要”，她说，“我们也从中获得了新的学问。”

　　"Cross-cultural exchanges prompt people to reevaluate what is taken for granted”

　　The First World Congress of Classics opened in Beijing on November 7. Starting from the research perspective of classical civilizations, the congress traces the origins of human thought, summarizes the wisdom of human history, and explores the traditions of human civilizations.

　　During a parallel forum discussing Confucius and ancient Greek philosophy, Lene Rubinstein, Professor of Ancient History, Royal Holloway, University of London, UK, said in an interview with China Youth Daily that the "benevolence" and "righteousness" advocated by Confucianism correspond to the "philanthropia" and "uprightness" in ancient Greek philosophy.

　　At the same time, Rubinstein believes that today's society has, to a certain extent, exaggerated the "individualism" in Greek philosophical thought. "The individual is always placed in the context of the community as a whole in Greek philosophy," she said. "Individuals are not supposed to prosper at the expense of the community.”

　　"If we study other cultures' moral compass, we will very often start asking new questions about our old traditions," Rubinstein illustrated, "We would suddenly learn about another culture's way of posing questions to what we used to take for granted”. It is cross-cultural exchanges that give these questions an opportunity to surface. "There is sometimes a need for discussion rather than a simple answer," she said, "You actually get new knowledge from that too.”
